Short answer: A die cut printed box is a custom-shaped corrugated box with your artwork on it. The best print method depends on the graphics you need: direct print suits bold, simple designs, while a laminated litho label gives photo-quality color. Packaging Source Inc. designs, prints and manufactures die cut printed boxes in our own facility.
Printing is what turns a die cut box into a brand asset. This guide compares the main print methods so you can choose the right one before you request a quote. For the structure side of the project, start with our die cut boxes page.
Print methods for die cut boxes
| Method | What it is | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Direct print | Ink applied straight onto the corrugated, in one or multiple colors | Shipping boxes, mailers and bold logo-driven designs. See our direct print box. |
| Litho laminated | A high-resolution printed sheet laminated to corrugated board | Retail boxes and displays that need photo-quality graphics. See our litho laminated corrugated box and litho label packaging. |
| Inside print | Graphics printed on the interior surface of the box | Unboxing experiences. See our box with inside print. |
| Custom printed shipper | A branded die cut shipping carton | E-commerce and subscription programs. See our custom printed shipper. |
How to choose a print method
- Photography and gradients? Choose litho laminated.
- Logo and simple graphics on a shipper? Direct print is usually enough.
- Want a surprise inside? Add inside print.
- Retail shelf or display? Litho laminated gives the strongest shelf impact.
- Tight budget or short timeline? Ask us to compare options for your quantity.
Artwork tips for die cut printed boxes
- Work from the dieline. We supply a flat template showing cuts and folds, so your artwork lines up with every panel.
- Keep key content away from folds and cuts. Place logos and text inside the safe area.
- Extend backgrounds past the cut lines. This allowed margin (called bleed) prevents white edges.
- Send high-resolution files. Vector logos and 300 dpi images give the sharpest result.
- Define your brand colors. Provide color references so reorders match.
Finishing options
Printed die cut boxes can be finished with laminating and other finishing to match your brand. Foil-stamped boxes, for example, are shown on our printed boxes page. Ask us which finishes suit your box style and budget.

Frequently asked questions
What is a die cut printed box?
A die cut printed box is a custom-shaped corrugated box, cut and creased with a die, with artwork printed directly on it or laminated to it.
What is the difference between direct print and litho laminated boxes?
Direct print applies ink straight to the corrugated and suits simple, bold graphics. Litho laminated boxes use a printed sheet bonded to the board, which allows photo-quality detail and richer color.
Can I print on the inside of a die cut box?
Yes. Inside print puts graphics on the interior surface for a branded unboxing experience.
